Licensing & Feature Tiers

sight·line is available in four tiers, from free observation for one student to unlimited students with AI-powered analysis and team collaboration features.

Installing sight·line

sight·line is available on:

• macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) — native desktop app via installer
• Linux (x86-64) — AppImage installer
• Web — browser-based version (no installation required)

All versions keep your data on your device. There is no mandatory cloud sync.

Activating your license

When you first launch sight·line, you start in the Free tier (one student). To unlock Pro or Pro+AI, you need a license key.

Getting a license key

1. Purchase a license at sight-line.app or contact sales at support@sight-line.app
2. You’ll receive an email with your license key

Entering your license key

1. Open sight·line
2. Go to Settings (gear icon at bottom of Student Picker)
3. Tap Licensing or License Management
4. Paste your license key and tap Activate
5. sight·line validates the key with Keygen (our license server) and unlocks your tier immediately

Your device is now registered to that license. You can deactivate the license from the same Settings panel if you want to activate it on another machine.

Checking your current tier

From the Student Picker, open Settings > Licensing. You’ll see:

• Your current tier (Free, Pro, Pro+AI, or Team)
• License expiration date, if applicable
• Device registration status
• Options to revalidate, deactivate, or upgrade

License validation and grace period

sight·line validates your license with Keygen every 30 days to ensure it’s still active and hasn’t been revoked. Validation happens automatically in the background.

Grace period: If you’re offline or the validation server is unreachable, sight·line enters a 7-day grace period. You can continue using your licensed tier during this time. Once online, the next validation resets the grace period clock.

After the grace period expires: If validation has not succeeded in 37 days (30 + 7), sight·line reverts to Free tier, even if your license key was previously valid.

Machine limits and deactivation

Each license key can be activated on a limited number of machines (usually 2 devices). To activate on a new device:

1. Deactivate the license on an old device: go to Settings > Licensing and tap Deactivate
2. Activate the key on the new device following the steps above

If you reach your machine limit and need to move the license, deactivate on the old device first. If you can’t access the old device, contact support@sight-line.app to reset your machine count.

Offline use

sight·line works entirely offline — you can record sessions, view results, export PDFs, and use all observation methods without an internet connection. License validation happens when you’re online; validation failure doesn’t prevent you from using features you’ve already unlocked (within the grace period).

Upgrading or downgrading

From Settings > Licensing, you can:

• Upgrade to a higher tier by entering a new license key
• Downgrade by deactivating and returning to Free tier (or activating a lower-tier license key)

Downgrading may disable features you were using — for example, if you move from Pro to Free, you’ll be limited to one student and can’t add more until you upgrade again.

Privacy and licensing

License validation includes:

• Your license key (to verify validity)
• Device fingerprint (to track machine count)
• App version number (for diagnostics)

No student data is ever transmitted during license validation. Validation happens only when you activate a license or when the background validation check runs (approximately every 30 days).
