Getting started with sight·line

Overview

sight·line is a desktop application for systematic behavioral observation and data collection. It's designed for school psychologists conducting FBAs and evaluations, and ABA practitioners collecting treatment data.

All data stays on your machine. There are no accounts, no cloud storage, and no compliance concerns.

Getting started

Install the desktop app

Download sight·line for your platform. Installation takes under a minute, no IT department required.

  1. Download the installer for your OS
  2. Install and launch sight·line
  3. Start your first observation, no configuration needed

Observation types

sight·line supports all standard behavioral observation methods:

Interval Recording Whole interval, partial interval, and momentary time sampling with configurable interval lengths.
Frequency Recording Count behavioral events with automatic rate calculation (per minute or per hour).
Duration Recording Time how long behaviors last with start/stop tracking per episode.
ABC Data Structured antecedent-behavior-consequence recording for functional behavior assessments.
Discrete Trial Record correct, incorrect, and prompted responses for ABA teaching programs.
Peer Comparison Alternate observations between target and peer at configurable intervals for discrepancy ratio calculation.

Recording a session

  1. Select your observation type from the main screen
  2. Configure settings (interval length, behaviors to track, etc.)
  3. Press Start to begin the observation
  4. Use the on-screen buttons or keyboard shortcuts to record behaviors
  5. The timer and running totals update in real-time
  6. Press Stop when the observation is complete

Viewing results

After each session, sight·line displays a results summary including:

  • Percentage of intervals with behavior (for interval recording)
  • Rate and total count (for frequency recording)
  • Total and average duration (for duration recording)
  • Session graphs with trend lines across multiple sessions
  • Phase change markers and condition labels

Exporting data

Professional and Pro+AI tiers can export data in multiple formats:

  • PDF reports:formatted for evaluation files, IEP meetings, and documentation
  • CSV export:raw data for analysis in Excel or statistical software
  • Chart export:publication-ready graphs for reports and presentations

AI features

Pro+AI tier includes local AI capabilities powered by Ollama:

  • Narrative drafting:generate observation narratives from session data
  • Pattern detection:identify trends and outliers across sessions
  • FBA hypotheses:analyze ABC data for function suggestions
  • Natural language queries:ask questions about your data in plain English

All AI processing runs on your machine. No data is sent to external servers.

Templates & profiles

Save time on repeated observations:

  • Templates:save observation configurations (type, behaviors, settings) for reuse
  • Client profiles:organize sessions by student or client across your caseload
