Every trial starts on Pro for 21 days. The clock starts when you activate the trial rather than on install, so downloading it before you need it costs you nothing. No account, no card. When the trial ends you stay on Free until you choose a plan.
No. Every AI feature runs on your own machine, and there is no cloud model behind it. Recording, AI drafting, and phone pairing all work offline. A paid license does check in with the licensing server roughly once a week, so the app is not sealed off from the network entirely, but nothing you observe or type is ever sent anywhere to be processed.
In a database on your computer. There is no cloud sync and no upload. Analytics and crash reporting are both off until you turn them on, and neither ever includes your observations, student information, or anything you type.
You keep it, and you keep the ability to get it out. Backup, restore, and raw CSV export work on every tier including Free, and they keep working if you stop paying, so you can leave with your records intact. Annual plans have 30 days to ask for a refund.
